Country Kid, City Kid

First Grade is well underway, but the days are still warm and long.
We have been taking advantage of the sunny warm afternoons to do some fun things after school.

Last week we decided to take a stroll through Muir Woods on the way home.

Trevor was not too excited about the idea, walking around looking at trees didn't sound too fun.

But then he had a blast dropping leaves and sticks into the creek from the bridge and watching them float down.

 Self portrait

The next day we went for fun in the Big City.

First stop ice cream!!

Delicious!!

Next stop crazy fun playground.

This climbing structure has fantastic view of Downtown.  Trevor found Brett's office building and thought  it would be a good idea to call Dad and tell him to look out the window so we could wave to him.  Upon further consideration, he decided we would be too small for Dad to see.

And final stop... hot fresh bread!!

First Day of First Grade!!

Our crazy summer  fun has come to an end.  We had a fantastic summer but now it's time to get back to school.  Trevor is so excited to see all his school buddies again he just might bust!

Checking things out at the first grade open house with Dad.

First day of school!!  All packed up and ready to roll.

We ran into BFF Helena on the walk to school this morning.
It was so funny watching Trevor break into a full sprint to run over so to give her a huge hug.

I was still hanging around chatting when the first grade came out for recess.  Trevor motioned for me to come over.  He was very excited to tell me that this was the snack recess.

So far so good!!
Now I get to tackle three months of banks statements and house cleaning that seem to have piled up!

Random Bits of Fun ...

Viewing the lunar eclipse... when in doubt wear a costume!!

Silly bike riding boy.
All the two boys are talking about around here these days is how fun the last ride was or when the next ride will be.

Trevor's class went on a overnight camp out!!  Just kids and teachers... no parents!
He was so excited he could hardly sleep the night before.
Here he is at the drop off with his best buddy, Helena.
They spent the morning at the beach then moved over to the campground.

And here his is the next morning.
Crazy hair and looking a bit tired but all in one piece.

All ready to carry his gear back to the car.  He had a blast.  He seems to think the most exciting parts were getting to sleep in the boys tent, the talent show and the night hike.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and went to a show :)

 Last day of soccer.

A teacher from Trevor's old school is in a band.
We love to go a listen to him play at this coffee shop near out house.
Trevor just makes himself comfortable and enjoys the music.

Celebrating the 6 3/4 birthday back on May 15th at our favorite ice cream shop here in the big city.

 What a hot head!

Cute ducklings we saw on our last family bike ride.

Heading Off Road...

Trevor has discovered a love of trail riding.  He is no longer content to ride around on boring old smooth roads!!  I'm not sure who has been having more fun, the kiddo or his Dad.

Spring Fun!!

Dirty and tired, the true sign of a fun day!

We love our Explortorium Fridays, always something new, fun and amazing to see.

Trevor best buddy from school, Helena, invited us to explore a waterfall and creek near her home.  The kids had a blast building a dam, throwing rocks, getting wet and exploring.

The new bike has arrived!!

Trevor worked hard earning part of the money washing cars, collecting recycling and having a garage sale.  Mom also got a new bike, a sassy little folding number!  We have been having a blast riding around in the park.

The school  newspaper.

Each year at Trevor's school the Kindergarten class creates a newspaper.  The kids write stories, draw pictures and pick the name.  The grand finale is a field trip to the printing plant to see the paper printed on a huge press.  It was amazing !!  We got to see how they make the printing plates and watch the class paper come hot off the press.

Bad Words

On the drive home from school yesterday Trevor was in the mood to discuss bad words.  He was listing the things I should be sure NOT to say... stupid, hate, idiot, rude... etc.

Then he says in a very serious voice,
"Mom, be sure not to say the bad word that starts with SH."

I'm holding my breath, waiting for the big one.
"So Trev, which word is that?"

"Shut up"

Whew!!

New Socks

I've been on the hunt for the perfect new socks for Trevor for the last month.  First brand, too low.  Second brand, too high and they don't stay up.  Yesterday he tried the third brand....

At pickup from school, "So Trev, how did the new socks work out today?"

"Ummmm, OK.  They were making my toes distracted."

More Bike Riding Fun

This was Trevor's last ride on his small bike.  He has been working hard to earn money for a new big bike with gears and hand brakes... just like Dad's,  as he has been telling everyone!!  He has been very busy car washing and collecting cans and bottles to take to the recycling center to earn his part of the money.  We participated in a multi-family garage sale on Saturday.  He collected quite a pile of books and toys that he is not using anymore.  The garage sale put him over the top and we went to buy his new bike on Saturday afternoon!! Photos of the new bike soon!!

Quote of the Day

Shelly, on Saturday afternoon, "Trevor, why are you only wearing socks?"

Trevor, "Mom, I'm too hot!"

Shelly, "Well, please go put on some underwear."

Trevor, with a huge sigh, "When I'm bigger I'm going to move to a island where I can be naked all the time."

Old School Typing

Trevor has been asking for a long time to get a typewriter. He has been bugging Brett ever since reading "Click Clack Moo, Cows that Type". Finally, to his great delight there is a typewriter at the Explortorium!! He thought it was very cool....

He spent a long time composing his letter.

It says -
"dear mom i love you do you love me i love dad to and i like
computer and i like your mom and i like tv love your son trevor"

Bike Riding Mania

Trevor has finally discovered the joys of bike riding. If you ask him what he wants to do these days the answer is almost always, " go for the bike ride with Dad!"

It's hard to tell who is more delighted about this development, the big boy or the little one.

He has decided trail and mud riding are much more fun that plan old road riding.

The end of a good day out!
